This unique creation is entirely composed of towels, carefully arranged to resemble a traditional wedding cake, complete with decorations fashioned from kitchen essentials and, of course, more towels.

How To Make A Towel Cake

To create a unique towel cake, you can take one of several approaches. For this tutorial, we’ll be focusing on a two-layer design, although you could also opt for three layers if you prefer. The key is to build up your layers, starting with the base layer and working your way up to the decorative top layer. Each tier will have its own distinct size and shape, allowing you to get creative with your design. In terms of materials, we’ll be using a combination of items from Dollar Tree and Walmart. Of course, you could also find everything you need on Amazon if that’s more convenient for you.

Materials For Making a Bridal Shower Towel Cake

In crafting this unique towel cake, we selected a variety of items to bring the design to life. The foundation consists of 12 kitchen towels, which provide a sturdy base for the structure. Building upon this foundation are 13 dishcloths, strategically placed to add texture and visual interest. To ensure the cake remains safe from heat, we incorporated an oven mitt and two potholders, carefully arranged to create a sense of balance. A ribbon adds a touch of elegance, while the 5-piece bamboo kitchen toolset serves as both decoration and functional element. The crowning glory is the dish placed at the base of the cake, which not only adds visual appeal but also provides a sturdy anchor for the entire structure. We opted for a teal-colored cake, as we found that white cakes tend to become stained quickly, resulting in discolored towels and laundry – a less-than-ideal scenario for any kitchen.

Step-by-Step Directions for Making a Towel Cake

To create a unique and functional DIY bridal shower cake, start by layering approximately 8 towels on top of each other, leaving one towel out for the outer layer. Roll the towels tightly until you achieve the desired thickness, and secure it with a large rubber band. This will be the inner core of your cake.Next, fold the outer towel into a rectangle slightly larger than the previous layers. Wrap this around the inner roll, securing it with another large rubber band, and place it in the dish to stabilize it.Repeat this process for subsequent layers, gradually decreasing the number of towels used so that each layer is slightly smaller than the one below it.Once you have built your cake, secure the outer layers with decorative ribbon wrapped around the rubber bands. To prevent the top layer from falling, stick a wooden spoon down the middle of the two layers, carefully maneuvering it to ensure it passes through both. Finally, decorate the cake by looping pot holders over the wooden spoons and placing them along the sides of the cake. Alternatively, you could use flowers or ribbon to create a beautiful and meaningful design. If desired, you can also add a cake topper to complete the look. And there you have it! A charming DIY bridal shower cake filled with practical kitchen supplies that makes for a thoughtful gift for the bride-to-be as she prepares for her special day.
